Dr. Misawa had been working for 30 years at the Industrial Bank of Japan, (now Mizuho Financial Group, Japan), the most prestigious bank of Japan.  In June 1996, he resigned from the position as a member of the board of directors of IBJ Leasing Head Quarter (Tokyo) and as President of IBJ Leasing, USA, (N.Y.)   In August 1996, he moved to Hawaii to join the faculty.  Therefore his career includes international finance business (commercial and investment banking) in New York and Tokyo.

Dr. Misawa has conducted various research on “international and domestic finances, using multi-disciplinary approaches based upon jurisprudential, economic, sociological and international comparative studies.”

Dr. Misawa’s researches have been published in Financial Management (Financial Management Association), Sloan Management Review (MIT), The Columbia Journal of World Business, (Columbia University), Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law (Vanderbilt Law School), Economist, Japan (Japanese version of British Economist), Journal of International Law and Business (Northwestern University School of Law), Banking Law Journal and Columbia Journal of Asian Law (Columbia Law School).

Dr. Misawa is the Director of the Center for Japanese Global Investment and Finance established at CBA, U.H. in 1997, under the sponsorship of Keidanren, Japan.

Dr. Misawa manages the Honjo-Professor Misawa International Fellowship (Total amount of $26,000 yearly).
